Default ** List of Libraries that Anyone Can Join. **

So, not everyone has a local library that offers e-books.

Let's make a list of libraries that are open to anyone, living anywhere. These should be open to anyone based on library rules, not website loopholes, that's available to anyone, for free or a small fee.

Comments about what kind or genre of selection that they have would be good, too.

Here's a list of free federal resources mostly dealing with non-fiction topics: history, science, technology, education, government, etc. Your tax dollars pay for it, so take advantage of it.

So YAY! It was free!! I think they must've meant that if you want to borrow physical materials the library card cost $40, because it didn't ask anything about where I lived or my credit card number. AWESOME!

Here is the link for the eCard application to fill out:

quickest form I've ever filled out, for real!
Are you a FL resident? The policy for e-cards is at the Alachua County Library is :

    "eCards

Any Florida resident may register for an ACLD eCard online. You will need an email address for registration confirmation. An account will be set up to provide immediate access to our online resources."

I'm a FL resident and assumed they could tell from my computer ID that it was in FL, but if not, there's a hole in their system. Or maybe they're just trusting in the honor system.

Librarians are usually anal about their systems and I figure they are talking about their in-library cards for the non-resident fee.

I guess this is a moral dilemma.
I wasn't implying that you shouldn't use it - just noting that my assumption was wrong (that they can tell where your computer is located and would've denied the card if I'd been out of state) - I'd wondered about that, though, because when I registered, my e-card number came back almost instantaneously. I'm not sure how long this policy (being able to apply online) has been in place there - I'd seen that library as a place to get ebooks when I bought my Sony reader last fall, but at the time you had to get a card in person, there was no way of getting one online. As long as I'm not on hold for a book because you've got it checked out, it's all good for me. (I'm kidding I've got plenty to read and can't imagine the book I couldn't "hold" for for a while.)

I was refering to the free part. Only Florida residents are allowed to have free ACLD library cards or free ACLD eCards.
