Default BN Nook Classic Forcing (Crappy) Software Update

I'm furious. Software updates should be optional, so long as I don't use their store. There was no way out of updating. Stupid B&N.. this is the kind of crap that makes me want to see them go under.

I don't use the B&N store anymore. Had updates off. Turned wi-fi on for a few minutes to use Trook. And, bam, Nook Update forced itself on me.

I HATE the new logos. I HATE that it erased my custom settings and apps. It's my device, and I'll do what I want with it. If this is how it's going to be B&N, I'm jumping ship to another reader.

So sorry you lost your custom settings, apps and such! I had no idea B&N forced their updates! Even with having updates turned off?

it seems odd to me I guess, because even on my phone if their is an update available I have to confirm it before it will begin the process!

Hope you find a solution for this. Best of luck,

    -Meg

Hi, I thought I had missed something.
As far as I know, as long as you do not connect OTA ( over the air ) with B&N the updates do not go thru.
As soon as you connect, BAM, it downloads and installs the update automatically.
There is another thread discussing this subject.
Pros and cons about why and why not B&N has the right or not to update its product.

And by the way, I have not had a problem with software updates.
Then again I have not rooted my nook 3g or my NOOKcolor.

I didn't (don't) think you can turn update off. Updates are automatic and if you turn the wifi on you are going to get them. Many softrooter before you have had the same or similar. You shouldn't have a problem again unless there is another update. It takes like what? about ten minutes to root your nook again? It's not like they will reset you every time you turn it on. And if you hate it that bad you could go back to factory settings and root it again but be aware that it might update again if you use wifi. Don't blame B&N for trying to improve their software for you that you customized. Autoupdating is one of their selling features after all!

I understand what you're saying, but it is kinda ridiculous. You shouldn't be forced to update, just because you want to connect to the internet.

Not even Apple does that (for which I am thankful).

Apple doesn't, but your Blu-Ray player probably does.
