Default Favorite or Most Hated Book Character?

I know this has probably been asked previously, but I couldn't find it anywhere, so I decided to go for it!

My wife and I were talking the other night about characters we love and hate, from both books and movies (mostly books though). One person's favorite might be another person's most hated!

So I want to ask: What are your favorite book characters, or your most hated, and why?

Is it a villain you just love to hate, or is it a hero or sidekick.

Here are a few of mine to get things started:

Roland of Gilead (the gunslinger) - Stephen King's The Dark Tower series...why? Because he is pure awesomeness!

Agent Pendergast from the Preston and Child Books. The guy is so calm, cool and collected. I love the way his mind works.

And Samwise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings. He was so loyal and just would not quit.

    Let's hear some of yours!

    Best wishes,
    James

My favorite character is probably Mixtli from the Aztec series. Near the top of Don Juan de Zavala from later in the Aztec series.

That Jennings can sure create a memorable character!

I can't think of a least favorite character. I probably didn't finish whatever book it was in.

I agree. No least favorite characters cause those books get deleted. Favorite of all time... maybe Alex from Jonathan Kellerman's series? Favorite from this year specifically...any one from spinward fringe.

My favorite character is Hank Reardon from Atlas Shrugged. He did things his own way. He refused to sell out.

I have to admit, I have never read Atlas Shrugged (GASP!). I think after reading your post I will have to check it out.

I also thought of another favorite character of mine that I should have put in my original post. I have to add Mat Cauthon from Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time

I'm also a Pendergast fan. I also love Augustus McCrae (is that the right name?) from McMurtry's Lonesome Dove.
But perhaps my favorite is Ignatius J. Reilly from A Confederacy of Dunces.

I'd say Jack Reacher from Lee Child's books, Parker from Richard Stark's, and Hap and Leonard from Joe Lansdale's series.

This is going to sound kind of creepy, but one of my favorite characters (the book version of course) is Hannibal Lecter. Harris did such a great job crafting him, making sure that the audience understands that it is all about respect with him, that he thrives on richness, culture, and opulence. That, essentially, he is the "perfect man" except for the fact that he eats people. I've always liked the character for some reason. But then again, I was a psychology major in undergrad, so that may explain some of it.
As for my least favorite...Bella Swan. I can't stand her.
