Default Issue downloading books to my Nook.

    I am always getting either:
    Download Queued: will download shortly
    OR
    Network not available

Error. (I have Nook Wifi only not 3G with 1.5.0 firmware)

I can browse using built in web browser so I know network connection is fine (And also I can browse B&N Shop).

My B&N account is fine since I have no issues downloading books on my Nook Color.

I have no problem otherwise with nook classic.

I just want to fix this issue and then it will be perfect for reading.

B&N support was no help. They were keep ignoring the fact that my wifi connection was fine and told me that it must be my connection. (how come EVERYTHING else was working fine including browser if it WAS my wi-fi connection?)

    I tried:
    Rebooting (several times)
    de-register and re-register
putting all the books in archive and trying to retrieve again.
    forgetting and re-connecting to wifi.

Does it need special port opened? I do not believe there is any outgoing port restrictions and I have no issues downloading books on my Nook color.

    Thanks.

First question to ask would be have you tried usins a public WIFI like Starbucks or MacDonalds and do you get the same problem? If you do not then YES it is your router and probably your security setting. If you search router on this site you can find lots of threads where people resolve this issue.

I will try to hook up another wi-fi router without any security setting and see whether that resolve this issue.

If that is the case, then I would have to think that it is a wifi bug with nook, no?

I mean, how is it that I can browse websites with built in browser if it is my wifi setting?
I could also browse/search for books on B&N shop as well using the Nook.

No I don't think it is a wifi bug with nook. I think it's a security setting in your router. Is your router set to WEP? If so could you maybe set it to WAP2?

    It is set to WPA2.

Like I said, later, I will hook up another router to my network and play around with various security settings to see whether I can get it to work. (it just is a HUGE pain in the but to mess with my main router considering that I have about 10 wifi devices hooked into it).

I searched for "router" and read through a lot of messages, but none fits my description.

Most of them states that the device either can connect or not connect or makes connection but can not get to Internet.

In my case, ALL online activities - browsing web sites, looking at B&N book lists, getting book descriptions, purchasing (although they were just some free ones) books all work, just that I can not download them. Books that I put in archive correctly shows up as archived books, etc.

That is what is so odd about it.

Here is a thread that talks about opening up ports on the router fixed this issue:

    Hope this helps you!

That is the EXACT issue that I am having.

Sigh, the thread does not state WHICH port that I should be opening up and my can only put 1 device on DMZ and there is device there already.

That said, I think I have some idea now what to look for.

    Thank you.

You could try private messaging the members who fixed theirs and try to get more details. If you get more info would you so kind as to post your solution in that thread?

    The problem fixed!!

Weird though. I do not know WHAT the issue was in the first place.

Ok, I did not do ANYTHING to my wireless router (original one - Actiontec wireless G router given to me by Verizon).

Now, I hooked up my old router (D-Link DIR516 - wireless b/g/n router)

Set up the wireless just like the other one (WPA2-PSK-AES) then using my classic nook, connected to the D-Link router. Voila! No issues, the books downloaded without ANY problem.

Then, (here is where odd issue comes into play) I re-hooked up the classic nook BACK to the Actiontec router, then reconnected (even using "remembered" connection), and tried to download other books and now there is no problem.

In conclusion, I do not know what may have been the problem since:
D-link router is connected TO the Actiontec router without any special port opening or anything. So port was not the issue here. They both were using same security settings (since I could connect BACK to the Actiontec router and still download the books).

    How weird is THAT?

So, I guess solution if you are running into this similar problem would be:
Go to your neighborhood B&N book store (if you could or go to your neighbor or borrow extra router) try to download a book and if you successfully can download the book, then come back home and re-try to download other books. It may just mysteriously start working.

    Thanks.
