Default Battery Won't Charge to 100%

New Nook here (one week old) and I'm liking it very much and also this forum. Problem is can't get it to a charge of better than 96% to 97%. I have done the following:

    1. Pulled the battery, let it stand for 30 min and replaced battery - orange light never goes out even after 12 hours and charge says 97%

    2. Turned the Nook on and off a couple of times - same result as above.

Question: Is my Nook defective? Has anyone else seen this problem? Should I return it (big PITA)?

It doesn't seem to affect the Nook reading or anything else but I'm a perfectionist and believe that if it's supposed to go to 100% then it should.

Give it a week or two
I've noticed my battery sometimes only tops out at 84% or 95%

it's just 'iffy' metering of the battery and seems to sort itself out after a week or two

have a search, many others have experienced this, the overall run time on a full charge is the same regardless of what the meter says!

    @ docfreed

Don't fret... Back in December 2009/January 2010 there were a ton of posting about a similar situation.

I found that (at the beginning, and that ties to what bleugh indicated) that I would not get to 100% if I hooked the Nook to my PC to do the charging. After some time, that has changed so I can now get to 100% charge both via a wall jack and attaching the Nook to my PC.

My nook was also charging to 97% or 98% when I first got it in December. Soon after it charged to 100% and has been do so consistently since then.

    Hey guys,

I just picked up a Nook yesterday and I am having a similar problem, but mine is stuck at 88% ... Do you think this is the same issue?

    Thanks!

First of all try and clean the connections on the battery and make sure it is seating good. Let it run down to 20% and recharge. You will find that the charge gets better each time. In fact your next charge may go all the way to 100%. There are lots of people who's nooks did not appear to be charging fully but the problem clears up. So, don't be so worried.

    Hey all,
Yep I too just picked up the nook wifi today and have this issue. I did a bunch of research about this in lots of forums and played with mine and here are some tips for everyone.

First - the issue started when I use Adobe Digital Additions to move some books to my nook that I purchased from Kobo. It turns out when you use this as well as other programs to transfer books, you need to first disconnect your nook with in the program (for Adobe Digital Additions this means close the program - not sure on others) then unmount your nook from your pc. If you fail to do this (which I did) the nook will not charge.

Next - I read though I have not experienced this, that you need to have 'airplane mode' turned off for the nook to charge

Finally what did it for me was after un-mounting my nook correctly, I turned off my nook and then plugged it in to charge. This finally did the trick and it is charging correctly.

    Hope this helps
