    Default Christmas Eve traditions?

Do you have anything special you do with your family on Christmas Eve?

For the longest time, my family had Chinese food delivered. My grandparents would come over that night, and we'd open the presents from them and my aunt. For one or two years, we abandoned the Chinese food and went with grinders due to something in Grandpa's health. But last year I resumed the tradition and added another: a movie marathon starting at about 4:30 p.m. and lasting until midnight, capped off with the Alastair Sim version of A Christmas Carol.

Our tradition is that we all get to unwrap just one gift on Christmas Eve, and it is always pajamas. My mom used to do this for us so we would have nice pj's for pics the next day. I continue this with my family. I was actually surprised to find out how many people do this as well .....

Oh and we celerate my birthday too.

My girlfriend and her family does that, too! Only they'll be doing it at midnight this year... in Paris.

Coming from a large Italian family Christmas Eve involves hours of eating an insane amount of seafood.

Santa always comes to whichever house we are celebrating in and gives the kids their gifts. (I just realized I have gone from waiting for Santa, to being Santa, to watching my own kids wait for Santa)

I played Santa once for my cousin, who's now 19 years old. She bawled.

I can relate Frank... Many years ago, a dear friend (Sicilian) introduced us to the seafood bonanza they had on Christmas eve.

Funny how often many of us become our parents - Not such a bad thing (IMO).

We always have pizza for dinner and then open all the family presents. We open family presents on Christmas Eve & Santa comes on Christmas morning. My dad usually had to play at 5pm Mass Christmas Eve, so we started the tradition of pre-ordering half-baked pizzas and then we'd come home & cook them. Much easier to do when you had 3 girls clamoring to get to open their presents!

We always either go see a movie or watch Christmas movies, then that night we drive around and go look at Christmas lights (last year we got blocked in on one street by a firetruck, and Santa came out of it and came & said hello and took pictures with us - it was awesome!), then before bed we open one small present and read "The Night Before Christmas". Last year, I started the new pajamas thing, which I think is a great tradition and plan to continue it.

    Have a happy birthday, Rachel!

Once the moon is up, we walk the trail along the river near our home. We see strange sights, and then we return home.

Ours starts as soon as we wake up on Christmas Eve. We log on to Norad Tracks Santa and follow his travels. Then finish up whatever wrapping that has not been done and then a simple meal. Hubby and I then wait up for Santa to help out.
