Default question about hosting book clubs

I guess this is more for the moderators, but if someone else can answer, I'd like to hear opinions.

How would an author host a book club? You've had them for a couple of indie authors already this year. As this forum grows, you'll probably attract more indie authors, especially as BN gets PubIt going and authors from there look for another outlet to promote their work.

I'd like to offer any of my works for a book club discussion, although my most popular is Starfire Angels (just ask Ragdoll ). I'd love the opportunity to discuss details of my books with readers in an open forum like this, and I know I'm not the only author who feels this way. I'd have no problem offering free coupons on smashwords for those who might be interested.

    Thanks.

    Melanie

Hi Melanie... Thanks for posting the question.

Even though I have been an avid reader since my early teenage years, I have never found myself even close to being tempted to join a book club. For me, it is due to two things:

    1. The genre I read (romance), IMHO, does not seem to lend itself to a lot of in depth discussion or analysis or even putting together a list of questions to answer.
    2. I find it hard to want to/be able to commit to read a certain # of pages in a certain timeframe and then reconvene at typically the same date & time (often times weekly) to review the material.

I'm sure that Rachel would be more than happy to get you set up for a book club discussion about one of your books as long as you were willing to lead it. I would contact her directly.

    Melanie,

I think we are probably ready to do another book club, I stopped for a few months since it seemed a monthly book club wasn't get a lot of action. How would you like to start the book in September? This would give you plenty of time to spread the word about the bookclub on other sites, as I think this really helps you get a good turn out.

Send me a PM and we can discuss all the details

    Cheers!
