    Default YA Book Club Poll

Most of the titles listed are fantasy since most YA books you guys said you like are fantasy. I'm definitely open to other genres, so we can keep a list of titles too.

A short synopsis of each title is below:

Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready (first in a series)
Sixteen-year-old Aura of Baltimore, Maryland, reluctantly works at her aunt's law firm helping ghosts with wrongful death cases file suits in hopes of moving on, but it becomes personal when her boyfriend, a promising musician, dies and persistently haunts her.

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater (first in a series)
In all the years she has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house, Grace has been particularly drawn to an unusual yellow-eyed wolf who, in his turn, has been watching her with increasing intensity.

    Ash by Malinda Lo
In this variation on the Cinderella story, Ash grows up believing in the fairy realm that the king and his philosophers have sought to suppress, until one day she must choose between a handsome fairy cursed to love her and the King's Huntress whom she loves.

Wake by Lisa McMann (first in a series)
Ever since she was eight years old, high school student Janie Hannagan has been uncontrollably drawn into other people's dreams, but it is not until she befriends an elderly nursing home patient and becomes involved with an enigmatic fellow-student that she discovers her true power.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan (first in a series)
Through twists and turns of fate, orphaned Mary seeks knowledge of life, love, and especially what lies beyond her walled village and the surrounding forest, where dwell the unconsecrated, aggressive flesh-eating people who were once dead.

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
High school junior Violet uses her uncanny ability to sense murderers and their victims to try to stop a serial killer who is terrorizing her town, and although her best friend and would-be boyfriend Jay promises to keep her safe, she becomes a target.

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margie Stohl (first in a series)
In a small South Carolina town, where it seems little has changed since the Civil War, sixteen-year-old Ethan is powerfully drawn to Lena, a new classmate with whom he shares a psychic connection and whose family hides a dark secret that may be revealed on her sixteenth birthday.

The Mysterious Howling by (first in a series)
Fifteen-year-old Miss Penelope Lumley, a recent graduate of the Swanburne Academy for Poor Bright Females, is hired as governess to three young children who have been raised by wolves and must teach them to behave in a civilized manner quickly, in preparation for a Christmas ball.

I voted, but I don't really have a preference. All of the books you listed seem intriguing, so I'm up for anything.

I haven't even heard of most of those, although I did just finish Beautiful Creatures and enjoyed it.

That's the one I voted for. But most of them sound interesting. I just love paranormal.

Oddly, I can't watch most paranormal movies...

We're going to get a new child forum started here in the book club forum so we can start with introductions. Looks like the poll winner was In the Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan.

I'm going to propose starting in December with that title.

I'm also wondering if there are a one or two other folks out there willing to lead YA book club so we can rotate. I'd be most comfortable participating every month, but only leading every 2-3 months.

    PM me if you're interested.

The child forum is up! Please go over and introduce yourself in the Young Adult book club forum. The winner of the poll was In the Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan, so that will be our December selection.
