Has everyone had a chance to read the first section of chapters this week?

I did Melanie!! I finished the assignment last night (and read 2 more chapters because every time I get into it, it's hard to put it down, so kudos to you, my dear, very engaging!!).

Let me start off with Raea bugs me, she still seems so immature. After the last book, I am so partial to what a lovely guy Elis is, that this situation really irritates me.

I fully understand that bonding is serious and Elis should have told her, but I do not believe that this concept was completely alien to her (pardon the pun)...was there not some reference to this in the previous book (through a flashback that she had of Padina)? Please correct if I am wrong, but at moment, I am thinking that Raea was not totally in the dark, which, to me, makes Elis' behavior not so egregious as to merit the reaction he got - as in, I know it's bad thing, but there is much worse that can befall a relationship.

Further, the events that conspired to bring those 2 together happened very quickly and Elis has proven himself to be a stand-up guy. I think her reaction is very extreme and childish, so I am bothered. Especially because sweet, purple-eyed, orphaned Elis is suffering, hasn't this poor guy suffered enough? Raea, please.....communication would be good, so I fault our heroine for not maturing enough by this point to satisfy my 40-something mentality.....

On another note, what's with the cousin, Nare? I suspect she has some deeper issues with Elis. Her behavior does not seem to be as serious as it should considering the mission and responsibilities, she feels to me more interested in provoking conflict. Does anyone else think that there is some underlying conflict here? I half expect her to turn out to be a mole for the bad guys....

1. What were your first impressions of Nare? What of Elis's reaction to her?

2. In partial address to Diana's statement, Raea wasn't actually introduced to the idea of bonding (it was mentioned in Pallin's thoughts). How would you react if you found out that your new boyfriend had neglected to say "Oh, and by the way, once we start getting serious, you can't change your mind. You're stuck with me for the rest of your life, even if you decide later that you can't stand me"?

3. What did you think of Valdas?

4. What do you think Tarolis is doing on Earth at NeoGen Labs? (only hinted so far) This won't become a main point for a couple more books, but

5. How did you feel about Elis's note to Raea?

6. What did you think about Raea taking some time to think about her relationship with Elis?

7. What do you expect of the two men in the car outside the school?

8. What do you think of Nare keeping Raea and Elis separate?

9. What did you think of Elis revealing himself to Josh? Any thoughts on their conversation right before that?

10. How did you feel when Elis couldn't save Raea? What about his choice to save Nare?

11. What did you think of the flashback to when Elis lost his family?

12. Where did you expect Raea to wake up?

13. What do you think of the new "friends" Raea made? (what are your first impressions?)
