    Just a quick addition here...

eBook formatting can be a daunting task and what's more, it will leave a lasting impression with your readers. If your text is not flowing properly, or if your book is riddled with formatting errors or even unreadable special characters, your readers will ditch your book faster than you can say "Ah." I have formatted not only my own 10 books, but also a number of novels by New York Times best-selling authors and independent authors, which, combined with my programming background, gave me a solid base of experience on the subject matter.

Therefore, upon popular request, I have decided to offer actual ebook formatting as a service. If you need your manuscript professionally formatted so that it will display correctly on a wide array of devices and software-based readers, including the Kindle, Nook, Kobo, iPhone, iPad, and so forth, feel free to contact me for a quote. My office door is always open.

Wow! I'm in the process of writing a novel to be released as an ebook only. This is great information - thanks!

Wow, I just found this post (after self-pubbing one anthology and a short story) and, so far, found what I've read to be invaluable. Thank you, Guido, for the in-depth information! You're absolutely right that if an author spends months (or years) crafting their masterpiece, it would behoove them to spend the time to format it so that it appears as professional as possible.

I've bookmarked your blog and plan to go back and reread this series. Once finished, I plan to reformat my previously released eBooks using your methods. No sense in letting my stuff sit out there at the various distributors looking sub-par. Thanks again!
