    Default TFOHAT Week 1 Discussions!

PLEASE feel free to post questions of your own, I definitely think the more POV's there are, the better the discussions. These are just a few that I think we can get some good conversations out of to start with.

    1. What do you think of Mary so far?

    2. What is your opinion of the Sisterhood. Do you think they are an overall positive or negative presence in the village?

    3. How do you like the supporting roles? (Jed, Travis, Harry, Cass, The Sisters, etc...) Any strong feelings towards/about any of them?

    4. Any speculations about who Gabrielle was, where she came from, and what/how she became The Fast One?

    5. What do you think the room Mary stumbled upon in the tunnels is used for? What's the story behind the lists of names carved into the wall by the door frame?

    6. What BIG secret do you think the Sisterhood is keeping, if any?

    And....GO!

okay, I am going to answer these questions from my VERY FIRST perception of the book, since I've read it twice, I have different perceptions NOW, but don't want to give the book away for those who have not finished it.

    1. What do you think of Mary so far? naive, spoiled, depressed......I have more impressions, but I'm thinking that no matter who the focal point of this book was, it'd be the same way, because these people are NOT the same as us. they live in a different world, so have different mindsets than we do.

    2. What is your opinion of the Sisterhood. Do you think they are an overall positive or negative presence in the village? I personally think the Sisterhood has WAY too many secrets and. I think they are evil really. they remind me of a cult.........very creepy!

    3. How do you like the supporting roles? (Jed, Travis, Harry, Cass, The Sisters, etc...) Any strong feelings towards/about any of them? the only one I like is Travis. I feel sorry for Harry, and I think Cass is a well I dont' really know how to say it, can I cuss here? lol. I think she's a witch but worse? hahaha. Jed is the worst brother in history, seriously, who throws their sister out like that? especially after losing BOTH parents. what an unfeeling jerk! I only have an impression of Sister Tabitha really. the other "sisters" are really just background noise to me. Tabitha is an ANGRY spiteful woman who thinks she is entitled to EVERYTHING and cares nothing about anyone's feelings but her own. I think she THINKS she is trying to Help Mary, but really she's just trying to get her AWAY. I think she wants to do to Mary what she did to Gabrielle, but knows she couldn't get away with it as easily as she did that time, since Mary is part of that "Village.

    4. Any speculations about who Gabrielle was, where she came from, and what/how she became The Fast One? none......for now.

    5. What do you think the room Mary stumbled upon in the tunnels is used for? What's the story behind the lists of names carved into the wall by the door frame? I think it is Sister Tabitha's room maybe. not sure thought. I think the list of names is other outsiders who stumbled into the Village for help, and Sister Tabitha "sacrificed" them as well, because she wants to keep that secret, that there is NO OUTSIDE! among OTHER secrets she is keeping.

    6. What BIG secret do you think the Sisterhood is keeping, if any?
I think there are some huge secrets here, but don't think we will find out the extent of the secrets anytime soon I REALLY want to know a LOT of things I have questions to. not sure if any will be answered though

    1. What do you think of Mary so far?
I think she's coming of age and struggling with the realization that she wants more than to settle for the confines of life in the village, surrounded by death. She is struggling with guilt, grief, and finding out who she wants to be and what her role in the village is.

    2. What is your opinion of the Sisterhood. Do you think they are an overall positive or negative presence in the village?
Based on what the Sisterhood did to Mary the day they took her in, I think they are definitely a lot more dark and menacing than they appear to be. Totally agree w/ mysnookie's opinion!

    3. How do you like the supporting roles? (Jed, Travis, Harry, Cass, The Sisters, etc...) Any strong feelings towards/about any of them?
Again, I have to agree w/ mysnookie...I don't really like any of them except Travis. I think that Mary has a lot of guilt tied up in her feelings w/ Harry, since she was with him when her mother was infected. And I was so mad at Jed when he wouldn't even let her come inside their home...I'm just hoping that some of these characters will eventually show some redeeming qualities.

    4. Any speculations about who Gabrielle was, where she came from, and what/how she became The Fast One?
She clearly comes from some other village, and is proof that their is life beyond The Forest. Whatever happened to her to turn her into The Fast One, I hold Sister Tabitha responsible.

    5. What do you think the room Mary stumbled upon in the tunnels is used for? What's the story behind the lists of names carved into the wall by the door frame?
I think the list of names are "others" that came from other villages, that the Sisters kept isolated (maybe studied?) and then turned them over to the Unconsecrated.

    6. What BIG secret do you think the Sisterhood is keeping, if any?
I think they are DEFINITELY keeping a lot of secrets...they obviously know that their is other life out there, but want to maintain order in the village. Not sure what else they're up to, but it is certainly no good!

Okay guys. I'm finally ready to post these. I've been trying to catch up on work and have been answering them little by little and finally have them done!

    1. What do you think of Mary so far?
To be honest, I don't really like Mary very much so far. For the most part she seems overly emotional, indecisive, and selfish. But there are a few times I feel bad for her, which redeems her--to an extent.

    2. What is your opinion of the Sisterhood. Do you think they are an overall positive or negative presence in the village?
I definitely think they started out with good intentions. But as time went on, they began to let their positions of "protectors" go to their head and became afraid of loosing their control of the village. Thus, making them a very oppressive and (good word mysnookie) "cultish".

    3. How do you like the supporting roles? (Jed, Travis, Harry, Cass, The Sisters, etc...) Any strong feelings towards/about any of them?
I wanted to punch Jed. 'Nuff said. Travis is the probably my favorite at this point and I was very interested to find out why Travis responded so well to Mary's presence while he was healing, when he never seemed to notice her. I don't really have any strong feelings for or against Harry or Cass at this point. Still waiting for their "true characters" to come forth. Sister Tabitha is just a power-hungry wench.

    4. Any speculations about who Gabrielle was, where she came from, and what/how she became The Fast One?
I think she was from another village. I didn't want to think that the Sisterhood purposefully turned her, but I think they did. How cruel!

    5. What do you think the room Mary stumbled upon in the tunnels is used for? What's the story behind the lists of names carved into the wall by the door frame?
After reading mysnookies responses, I would have to agree that that room is probably used by Sister Tabitha. I couldn't help but wonder if maybe they "experimented" on people by purposefully turning them. Explaining the names on the wall. But I didn't think about the possibility of those names being other "wanderers"

    6. What BIG secret do you think the Sisterhood is keeping, if any?
I definitely think they are hiding the existence of other villages/people. They are probably afraid of their own village turning on them to find another where they may have more freedom.

well I mean, they talk about how the "unconsicrated" throw themselves and thrash against it, it IS going to weaken the fence, and that's not even factoring in rain and snow or whatever, the elements would for sure rot out the wood, and rust and weaken the metal. and the way they talk about "before the return" like it was hundreds and hundreds of years ago.... so that just got my mind rolling about the darn metal and wood. GRRR! I wish I didn't overthink everything. lol

They did mention at one point something about the original people who built the fence had left a stockpile of supplies, and they used that to continue making the fence until they ran out. I assumed the fence was mostly metal, and that they probably used trees from the village to reinforce any wood pieces.

So many questions, and we aren't given nearly enough answers!!!

I remember reading that too, but it made ZERO sense to me. that metal would NOT have held up, I'm almost positive of it. at least the way it's explained makes no sense to me, but I guess to others it does. it just doesn't seem plausible. but then again, we are reading about Zombies, and that's not so plausible either. lol.

I often found myself wondering how they even made the fence to begin with. I mean they had to be exposed to the Unconsecrated quite often while building the barrier and the pathways. I try to envision how they pulled it off...I'm sure alot di--I mean--turned.
