Unhappy Free Nook Books @ Barnes & Noble and their cover art...

Dear Lord, I already know that some of you here are authors on B&N. And I pray that this doesn't apply to you, ok?? But there are so many covers on the free books at B&N that are so horrible, I just want to find a way to contact the writers and say, "Hey! Your cover stinks, could I fix it for you?!"

I know most of them are self-made. I get that, ok? But a cover says a lot about the author and the book. And yes, yes, yes... I know! "Don't judge a book by its cover!"

But if the cover looks cheesy or just not well done, I have to wonder what the story inside is like. Maybe I should start offering cover art... LOL!!

I've given SOME of the books a try; some were just as bad as their covers. Some I was pleasantly surprised by! But it's a crap-shoot!

    OK, I'm off my vent...

    • "H3y [email protected]$ r0ng?" *sigh* Obviously it's your education.
    • Dear Microsoft Word, I'm pretty sure I spelled my name right. Not sure about the rest, but I think I have that one right!
    • I hate it when I spell a word so wrong that spell check has no suggestions.

Well, you're right. It's kind of like songwriters who can't sing or painters who can't draw. Sometimes writers can't Photoshop. And if they're giving their books away for free, there really isn't a budget to hire someone!

But I agree. A cheesy cover implies a cheesy book, whatever the reason for it.

The problem I have is so many pornographic or soft-porn covers (these are beyond the typical romance novel covers). I have to search for free books late at night, after my kids are in bed. And seriously, some of the titles are just disgusting (stepdad likes to watch and daddy's little whatever...those are worse than the simple labels of "naughty nooners").

Oh always!! ALWAYS! And I'm frantically adjusting my monitor around trying to make sure that no one can see it and finally I just say, "**** with it!" *pushes power button, prays that it shuts down BEFORE boss walks by and sees Naughty Nooners plastered across the screen*

Yeah... THAT would go over really well. "So... Muse. I see you have time to peruse various..'sites'... while at work. Would you care to explain what," checks log report, "yes. Could you explain what 'The Dom Next Door' and oh! - my personal favorite, 'Forced Fantasy' are about?"
