Default Who are the BEST heroes/villains that we've NEVER heard of?

Someone was asking for suggestions on great vigilante fiction, and I immediately suggested my favorite...The Repairman Jack series by F. Paul Wilson (which begins with THE TOMB). Repairman Jack is my favorite character in contemporary fiction and has been since I was a teenager (well over 15 years now). I find myself constantly recommending Wilson's books to people because of RJ, and it occurred to me that there must be a lot of truly compelling characters out there that are obscure to most people.

So, I was curious about some of the fav heroes/villains/etc that others may not know about. I suppose you can mention the book they're in as well, I don't mean this to be a strict thread...just kinda wanted to hear other opinions.

    For me, it's like this:

Hero - Repairman Jack (Repairman Jack Series by F. Paul Wilson)
Villain - Rasalom (The Keep, and The Repairman Jack series by F. Paul Wilson)

    What about you?

    Well,
I havent read much in terms of novels/fiction in quite some years..
So I really couldnt think of any off the top..

    However!~~

I have just read "Peace Warrior", By Steven Hawk~
and my favorite new hero is Grant Justice!
(Titan is up there near the top of the list also).

Grant Justice is a 634 year old soldier/warrior who has been given a second chance at life (literally)..
and who is responsible for bringing freedom to all of Planet Earth.

"Grant", as his friends call him.. (Yes, he and I are now friends) lol
    is the man!
and I can't wait to read more about him!
    Fantastic book!

I have a review to work on later today.

I did just remember a previous "favorite hero", from another book I read years ago..
Called "Swan Song". by Robert Mcgammon.
The "hero-in" there, would be the girl named Swan.

    Still,
Peace Warrior is my new favorite book!
Im very happy that it is the first fiction/sci-fi book Ive picked up in all these years..
Because Now, I want to read more!

I don't think i will be "turned off" by fiction anymore. lol

I don't know about the term "hero" but Lee Child's Jack Reacher series are great. Reacher is a heck of a character as far as helping others go.

You're not the first person I've heard say good things about Jack Reacher. What's the first book in the series? I'd like to give it a try.

I enjoy Jack Reacher too! The first book is Killing Floor. I personally don't think these have to be read in order. I just read them as I find them.

I think it is too hard to pick a favorite. Maybe top three, in no order?
    Jack Reacher
Myron Bolitar Series (Harlan Coben) - Better if read in order
Sisterhood series (Fern Michaels) - Yes, they are "fluffy" and "girlie" but enjoyable. Best if read in order

    Others:
Kay Scarpetta Series (Patricia Cornwell) - Best if read in order
Love me some good reading! Bring it on!

Yeah they don't have to be read in order. Killing Floor is the first (and ironicly one of the two I haven't read yet). My favorites have been The Enemy, Bad Luck and Trouble and 61 Hours. Two I could have done without are Echo Burning and Nothing to Lose.
