Default Comparing nook page numbers to physical

Has any one compared the numeber of pages listed on their nook to a physical copy of the book. This started because the other week B&N had Atomic Lobster by Tim Dorsey on the free page so I grabbed it. I read the first chapter and saw the page numbers listed as over 600. I didn't think that was right so I checked B&N's website and a physical copy of the book is only 400pg.

I compared a few other books just to see:

A Nameless Witch (A Lee Martinez) ebook: 212 Physical: 320
Already Dead (Charlie Huston) ebook: 178 physical: 288

Although in the case of Atomic Lobster I think it includes bonus material I would have thought the ebook would have more pages because it doesn't seem like there's as much text on the page.

... I think the page numbering on the Nook, specific to the item you are reading, is dependent on the font type/size it is displayed in.

Ooh, that would explain why sometimes I only get the page I'm on and not the /# after it. If you change the text size the Nook needs to index again to get a page count?

Also, you will notice that page turns do not equate to a page. Sometimes you have to turn as many as three pages before it will display a different number. It has to do with where page markings are set in the text. Remember that ereader overflow text. Things are not on a one to one ratio and cannot be.

I think the situation where you have multiple page turns before the page number changes is where the font size variance is reflected. Page numbers are set in the text as Ktrek noted; I don't believe the page numbers change based on the font size -- in other words, page 38 in an e-book is always page 38 regardless of the font size you have selected, but depending on where the page marking shows up, it may appear as though the page numbering is off slightly with different font sizes. If you have selected a larger font size, it will take more page forward presses to trigger the page number change because you are getting less text per screen view.

it depends on the format of the book. epub books generally have hard-set page numbers that are not relative to font size, and can take multiple page turns before the page number changes. pdb books are always dynamically paginated based on font size and 1 page turn always equals 1 page number.

    @ Kevin, Wundernook, and chris3g

I stand corrected about the font size - I can only blame my tiny brain for responding @ 5:42AM (Central) time...
Dang I was up @ 4:00AM, too, so I should have been more 'with it'.

    NOT!
