    Default foot or end notes

    Hi All,

I have a ebook pdb (from ereader.com) that has a few end notes within the chapters. On the nook, I can't seem to find any way to access that link. So is this just something unsupported in the nook? If so, I hope there's some support for in-page navigation in the future.

    - Ian

Ian - Are you saying that the notes don't show at all? Not at the end of the page or the end of the chapter? I doubt that any books support footnote links, at least I have not come across one yet. There are some limitations to ebooks and this may be one of them.

The footnote does not appear at all. The B&N ereader software shows the footnote. And the nook does allow one to add their own notes, so the technology is there to do it. So hope they support footnotes with a future update.

It sounds like the internal navigation links are not present that would allow you to move back and forth between the text and the end notes/foot notes. I suggest you let ereader.com know about this. They probably aren't aware of the problem since they get the ebook files from the publisher and I doubt they proof read every ebook they get.

Thanks.. I alerted ereader.com. I'm just hoping that since B&N owns the company now (and chose to support the pdb format), that it'll be easy to resolve.

So there is common frustration about the lack of footnotes.

I think the frustration is justified, although I think we should try to keep it in perspective. When you get an ebook that has end notes or foot notes that can't be accessed within the ebook, that is generally the fault of the publisher, rather than the retailer. However we should let the retailer know so they can then go back to the publisher and try to get it fixed. It's going to be a slow process, but hopefully publishers will soon learn that we ebook readers, who own these snazzy dedicated eReaders want ebooks that are as high a quality as DTBs. They will get there, we just have to nudge them along.

    Michael
