Default REGISTRATION FAILS WITH ERROR MESSAGE

Wow, was I glad to find this site after trying all kinds of ways to get to B&N! I now discover that I am not alone. Getting to B&N support is like looking for diamond on a nudist beach.

When I try to register my nook, first I get "REGISTRATION IN PROGRESS. This will only take a minute." Next comes the "ERROR - could not connect at this time. Please try again."

I am on my secured WIFI through a broadband N router. What is the workaround this if any? Do I just keep submitting forever until it gets done?

I don't know if this is possible of not, but have you tried turning off Wi-Fi and try registering through the 3G network?

AQ1, are you in the United States? The manual says you have to use either the "fast & free wireless" or be in a B&N store to register. However registering over wi-fi should work as long as you are in the US. And you've entered the credentials for your B&N account correctly. I mistyped my password a couple of times when registering.

I'd also do what Paul suggests and try to register over the GSM wireless.

Many thanks for your quick responses! No, I am in Canada. B&N does not sell these in Canada. I am not so sure if they have a store where I am. I am somewhat dumbfounded. How do I actually get on a 3G system?

There's your answer. You must be in the US to register your nook. Since Nook only works on AT&T's wireless network if you can get in range you should be able to register your Nook. Other than that, I'm not sure what to suggest.

You don't actually have to be in the US to register. I am in Canada and registered my nook just fine. Yes, 3G will not work, but it worked fine with my home WiFi. Make sure to connect to a Wifi hotspot before you try registering. Hope this helps!

Yes it should work in Canada, the nook is not sold there, but all their eBooks are. Hopefully you found a way to get it registered, maybe try taking the battery out and reseetting to factory settings? Could be that you are typing the email and password wrong on the small keyboard!

Yesterday, after updating my nook's firmware to the latest version, I was able to connect it to my home's wi-fi and register it. And I'm in Spain.
I had tried it before and got the error message you've been talking about, and thought it was due to my being outside the US, but if that was the case, the new update changed it.

As far as I know you can register through home wifi if you are in US and Canada.

Anyway, you may need to update your firmware to 1.2 and try again because this latest firmware allows registration worldwide.
