Default HPB trashes eReaders in their commercial

I just heard a commercial for Half Price Book on the radio. The entire commercial trashes eReaders and eBooks.

    How tacky

And the funny part is, you know in like 2-3 years their whole business will be eBooks. People shouldn't knock change because it only makes them eat their words later.

I've not heard the commercial, but I feel there will always be a market for used books, some people will never accept e-readers, however, as Rachel pointed out, e-book are the up and coming thing and instead of trashing them, HPB should be looking toward expanding their market to include an on-line store for used e-books. I'm betting it wouldn't take much to reset the DRM on an already purchased e-book and make it available to another customer!

It was a light-hearted commercial ("I turned my eReader over and shook it,") but the intent of the message was clear.

That is kind of tacky. And ironic since I've been embarking on a small project to replace many of my aging paperbacks with more durable hardbacks.

And you're just the kind of person they're trying to get through to! LOL To them, chances are you won't buy their products.

Eh, they're just worried that a digital format will threaten their business. Considering the decline in print publishing within the last few years, it's not *completely* unfounded.

On the other hand, the ebook market is kind of a tiny fraction (even with the massive reader push this Christmas) of book sales. Although, it is growing...
