Default can't get adb to connect with the nook

I'm trying to root the nook. however, I find it hard to follow through the instructions, and i'm stuck at the part where I need to connect adb in "cmd" via both usb method or router, and still it doesn't work. One of the reason why? is because I couldn't get the system to detect "ADB devices". Plugging in my nook, all I see is the 'nook' in the "system devices-->portal devices". In the catagory Disk Drive, i have two "B&N Nook USB drive", am I supposed to update the driver in one of the two? I've tried viewing hidden drives, and no luck in finding anything that says adb.

Might I suggest a search on the site for your subject before asking your question because you can find an answer a whole quicker and save us the trouble of trying to find the link for you. Anyway try this:

    And this one too:

I'm trying to connect to the nook through adb over usb with no luck. I tried following the instructions on the nookdev site and I read the thread kevin linked to. The nook was rooted following the softroot instructions, wi-fi locker has adb started, the android sdk is installed, I was able to find the nook adb device under the device manager and point it to the driver files I downloaded from the link on the nookdev site.

Basically all the steps went fine until it came time to enter in the adb shell command. The window flashed real quick and disappeared. I opened up the command prompt and ran it from there and it said "error: device not found". I tried the kill-server and start-server commands, and it said that the daemon was started successfully on port 5037. I tried adb shell again and still no device was found. I tried adb connect over wifi and it says "unable to connect to 192.168.1.3:5555". I tried adb devices, it says "list of devices attached" but doesn't show any connected devices.

Nothing I try seems to work. I've searched through different sites and forums and haven't been able to find a solution to the problem.
