Default I've Hacked my Nook. (That doesn't sound right...)

With Rachel's permission, I am linking this one back to my blog. Only because it is so long with photos, I don't know how long it would take to get formatted here.

I am in phase two of hacking the nook; it is rooted and I am hoping to have a browser and pandora running by tomorrow afternoon. Those are the only two thing I can think of that I'd want on it.

    Weeee!

I tried to look at your blog, but there is a large grey bar covering the text making it unreadable! How do you get it to go away? I'm interested to see what you've accomplished thus far and would like to follow your progress!

Thanks for sharing! I may try this but I'm waiting until my Nook is out of warranty.

This is fantastic! I am too chicken to mess with hardware right now and I am not really all that knowledgeable, but once the nook has been around for a little while, do you guys think that you would be able to load software with just the SD card?

Ha! I understand. I just couldn't wait. If I had bricked it, I would have had hard time explain to the Mrs. why my x-mas present was already toast.

Of course, during this process i've found that my e-ink screen already has a dead pixel in the dead center of the screen, which of course I can't get replaced now. *sigh*

Thanks. After I posted this VERY early this morning I realized it should be there anyway and was going to ask you to move it, so thanks .

You're much braver than I am! That's why I usually wait until the techie guys come up with a way to add hacks without having to void my warranty.

Well, right now it sounds like it is a bit of a gray area even taking the thing apart. nookDev has some people from Harvard Law looking at the TOS, and it sounds like there isn't really anything in there that explicitly prohibits any of this. That is complete hearsay on my part thought.

The other good news is that they are working on a modification that allows the rooting to occur without opening the device. The only reason it needs to be opened is to the OS card out and change one line of code in the init.rc. I would imagine it is pretty easy for B&N to overwrite that with the updates and "un-root" it. If they do, I won't take it apart again.

I can always hope, thought, that B&N will take hands off approach and actually let some modding occur without interference. And then, pigs will fly.
