A solution to this problem has been found over at XDA Developers for this problem.

The fix allows the NOOK Color to see and connect to Ad-Hoc networks like those given from Droid phones.

I have a motorola droid that I tethered and works well when providing internet to my laptop....only thing is the cord is micro usb on one end (that hooks up to my phone) and regular usb on the other to plug into my laptop. Any idea if there is a cord that has a micro usb on both ends so i can plug my tethered droid into my rooted nook?

    Thanks!

Wouldn't work. Android doesn't have USB host support. Basically that means that both your nook and phone expect to take orders over the USB connection rather than give them. If you plugged them into each other they'd just stare at you blankly.

I've have seen someone add USB host support to their phone (they even had a keyboard, mouse, and external monitor working off it), and I saw a note that someone was playing with adding it to CM7 for the nookColor, but it's not something thats generally available.
