Re: Blog series about eBook formatting
Great series, Guido - thanks. One question: when you talk about having images in the HTML file, where do you actually store them or host them so they're called by the HTML? I was a bit confused by that...thanks!

Re: Blog series about eBook formatting
Jon, simply put the images in the same directory as your source html file.
If you want to get a bit more organized, you can also create a subdirectory and put them in there and then access them using a tag like this
<img src="name_of_the_subdirectory/cover.jpg alt="cover" />

Re: Blog series about eBook formatting
So just include the images in the zipped file that gets uploaded?

Re: Blog series about eBook formatting
No, you don't have to include it. When you create your eBook with Calibre or so, the image will become part of the actual ePub file.

Re: Blog series about eBook formatting
The latest installment in the series just went live on my blog! This time we're building the final book in Calibre.

Re: Blog series about eBook formatting
Guido, I've been looking for someone to do a guest post for my blog (in my sig file) on how to format an ebook for the kindle. This is something I hired out, so I'm not the person to write it.
If you're interested, I'd be happy to link to your blog (we could link to your series for more in depth coverage) and your books, and I'm sure you'll get some visitors that way.
Give me a poke if it's something you're interested in.

I should probably take some time and read this because this formatting stuff is for the birds. I keep finding problems even after five or six revisions. ACK! I've got two books to be released this year, and the idea of enduring this formatting nightmare makes me want to weep.

This series can really help you take the pain out of eBook formatting, I believe.

Re: Blog series about eBook formatting
I'm having my next story put out by Untreed Reads and am editing and anthology that will be put out by Needle Publishing.
I'll definitely be putting out some more of my own work though and a blog like yours is just what I need.
Putting my first collection together was very exciting, but being told by a novelist I admire that he couldn't read past the poor formating was heartbreaking. I felt I had to put out a general apology to everyone and offered to replace all who wanted one. Thankfully at that time I'd only sold about 100, so it could have been a lot worse.
I'm heading over to the blog and I'm going to get it firmly fixed in my favourites (and twice to make sure I don't forget where it is).
Many thanks,
nigel
