You're going to let one little bug stop you from enjoying the nook? Take it back and replace it. It's not that hard to do and know that there are way more working units than bad ones out there. And if you are concerned about warranty type issues you could always purchase an extended warranty from Square Trade and that would protect your investment. The nook color is a lot of fun out of the box but even more fun if you softroot it and make a tablet out of it.

Eric, I can totally understand your frustration... I think I remember reading that the B&N isn't that close to you, but I would (as Kevin suggest) seriously think about going there as I do feel that once you have a functional device that you will love reading on your NC.

    Sorry.
It was not my intention to "chastise" you.
Yes, I did know what you were talking about..
But I did not know that you knew what you were talking about.
In my daily technical experiences with people..

Most of them truly do not know what they are talking about..
So, they do the "wrong" things, and then blame everything that goes wrong, on everything but themselves.

    Not saying this is you..
Just that this is what I deal with on a daily basis...
So I am sometimes "edgy" with such things.
The day I wrote that reply.. was one of those days.
    For that, I apologize.

    and, welcome here! lol

phlieger~Stick around these boards, I think you'll find more nice people than not. Ahmose is a great guy and a good source of technical information although he often comes across as flippant, I don't believe that was his intention with you.
    haha, Thanks phlieger,
You are correct, It was not my intention..
and I do often come off as 'flippant'.
    my apologies.
    Thanks for understanding. lol

I could not get it to update either. Until I discovered a few things. 1) Use an ethernet connected computer to download the update file, not a wireless. It appears that file gets damaged when using wireless. 2) The B&N file downloads slower and is more problematic than the other sites you can get the download from. Try this: http://www.techerrata.com/dl.php?pat...pdate_1-1.zip. You need to remove the _1-1 before dragging to the NC. 3) I changed the uppercase S to lower case and that seemed to help.
Turning off your NC will erase the file from the nook. You need to wait until it restarts on its own after it is unplugged.

Oh, I almost forgot the most important part. My USB cable is defective. I could only do the update with my e-ink nook cable. This affected my charging, too.

Mine wouldn't update either. I talked to someone in support and he walked me through it, doinv exactly as I had done three times, and it worked. The only difference is that my nook was asleep when I connected the usb cable. Once it worked, I posted my steps and someone else with the same problem read it, tried the same way and he worked too. Look through my posts to find it.
    Good luck.

Do not let the fact that you got a lemon deter you! Every electronic device out there has lemons running around.Just the shear numbers that are made will guarantee lemons occasionally. Even the venerable Apple products. Go get a new one. Make sure it is working correctly before you walk out of the store. A good Nook is ....fun!
