Richard A. Valicek came from humble beginnings in Toronto, Canada; raised by parents of Croatian descent, his childhood memories were of growing up with his sister and brother. Richard was the middle child of three and he often found himself alone as he was quite shy. His major interest was watching movies at a local theater, as he was intrigued by some of the great storytelling on the big screen. But his main ambition was in the arts as he was interested in illustration. He spent two years at a local college and graduated from a graphic design program; but his art career was short lived. He spent some of his early years working as a clerk but his interest in the arts would soon take another turn.
In the year 2001, Richard took an interest in storytelling. He enrolled himself onto a number of literary courses and began to study aspects of writing tall tales. Although the three years he spent writing assignments were quite exhausting, Richard’s mind was on a tall tale of 15th Century knights with magical claymore powers in a land he called ‘Elysium’. He then began to work on his book, which he spent 7 years writing. The book went under several revisions until he was satisfied. Numerous titles came to mind, but after a number of title changes he settled on calling his book ‘Alamptria’. The first installment would be ‘Red Moon Rising’ with a number of sequels to follow. The book went on to win the 2011 Buzzillions Reviewers Choice Award. The book was later reworked and expanded and given a new title - Alamptria 1: Bloodstone Crypt.
