if I had a NC, I'd want to root just so I could do this:

Has anyone here had any luck rooting yet? I have tried via Windows, Linux, Mac OS X I am either an idiot or missing something. I think i'll give up for a while and let someone come up with a simpler solution.

Actually, if you own a nook, then you're already running Linux.

OK. Rooted. Took a little bit of work and hair pulling, and I still have try installing an app or two to really test it, but it seems to be done.

I assume that most of you would be using Windows 7 if you were going to try it. Right now I wouldn't recommend it until the proper steps get clarified a little. The directions tell you what to do, but are light on information as to what you should be seeing at each step to confirm you're in the right place.

@ValleyMan, what part are you stuck on? I may be able to answer it for you.

Edit: I can install apps! I now have AngryBirds on my nookcolor. For SCIENCE!!!

Rooted! haha I was stuck on the ini I needed to create in XP in the .android folder... After that works like a charm... I must say the kindle android app on a NookColor just feels wrong haha. But the RSS reader and Dolphin HD browser are sooo much better than the original.

Agreed. I was also able to get an XBMC remote working, as well as add in a music player, and a file manager. I don't have any Kindle books so there wasn't any point in installing that app*; instead I installed the nook Andoroid app for laughs. It didn't work.

*I used to dump all my spare change in a coinstar a few times a year and exchange it for an Amazon gift certificate for books, but I stopped that when I bought the nook and switched to primarily ebooks. I guess having the Kindle app on the nook would give me an excuse to start doing that again.

Since you 'taught' us about that last year, I've loved it (but not for books).
