    Default Nook Color Rooting

    Folks,
I have a Color Nook 1.0.1. To root it...

    1. What size micro SD card do I need? I've seen 8 gig to 64 gig. Big difference.
    2. Any problems with the horrible Windows Vista for Business that I have on my computer?
    3. Which rooting program to use?

    Thanks!

    1. I used a 2gb card and it was fine. I didn't format it afterward though, because I didn't know if I would have to root my device again (I did).

    2. I use Windows 7 64 bit and didn't have any issues. At the Nookdevs wiki, they give you step by step instructions on how to use it with whatever OS you have.

    3. Auto-nooter. It basically does everything for you. The only thing you have to do is write the image on your SD card.

I think my card was 6 G (might've been smaller) and I didn't have any problem. I used the auto-nooter method, which is a relatively small set of files, so there was no need to have a ginormous amount of space on the card - it simply was necessary. As far as I know, there shouldn't be any problems based on which version of Windows you use because basically you're just using it as a platform to load up your SD card. Windows isn't involved in the actual rooting with that method.

Thanks for the input guys and gals. I did it and it worked great. 2 gig SD, used auto nook. Pretty incredible. installed an animated galaxy background, games, great calculator and email client. Having more fun than a human should!

I just rooted mine tonight.... I have been debating it since I purchased it....

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it... except I can't figure out how to put individual books on the home screen since I installed an app launcher.

I am definitely loving angry birds on the larger screen though. Now I have to go and defeat all the levels again lol

I follow these step by step instructions from XDA, and it works like a charm. I have an entire homescreen dedicated to small book widgets.
