    Default Rooted...And loving it!

Rooted my NC the other day. Loving every minute of it.

I've been browsing the Android Market and found some stuff I like.

Are there any "must have" Apps?

Perhaps we could start an App Section?

Can someone explain to me what Rooting is? I've seen posts about it, searched it a bit, still confused

Kami, obviously you are thinking your 'classic' Nook is gone and you're hoping to get a NC... Let us know what transpires!

There are a couple of NB threads surrounding rooting and from what I can tell there are two particular options available:

    http://nookdevs.com/Portal:NookColor

I am sure you'll hear back from people about the pro's/con's.

Basically, rooting refers to accessing the "root" files in your Nook software. Since this software is Android based you can "unlock" it and access the myriad Apps that are available in the Android market.

If you're coming from Windows, think of it as giving yourself an Administrator account. That "account" allows you to change system settings, install applications, and customize the user interface.

Here's my list of apps from my Appbrain account. I have two, one for my NC and one for my Android phone.

I used to have basically all of my phone apps on my Nookcolor, but decided it was way too much of a distraction. I didn't want tweets and FB notifications coming in while I or my husband is trying to read.

CocoaSugarbaker has a great list going. The must have apps I would add are Clutch - onscreen button that displays the last 20 apps you opened and CopiPE for storing data that can be pasted into text fields. You will also need a keyboard (like SlideIt) that supports the paste function.

My personal favorite app is WordSmith (Scrabble all day!)

Now that my nook updated to 1.1.0, can I still root it? Or is it best to wait till the developers create a new auto-nooter?

Has anyone rooted since the update? And has anyone had their Nook set back to factory since the update?
